It’s time to dress up in your best glow gear for the 3rd Annual Glow the Distance Glow Run! This year’s event is slated for Thursday, October 18 starting at Hegg Wellness Center. The goal of the 2-mile fun run is, “Shining Light on Cancer Awareness.” While the run is held in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event aims at raising awareness for all types of cancer. All proceeds will benefit 3D Digital Mammography upgrade efforts at Hegg Health Center. Hegg is excited to announce that they are so close to reaching out goal to bring 3D Digital Mammography to Rock Valley!
Some new events are planned for this year’s run. The event’s Glow Zone will open at 6:30 PM and will feature a photo booth and glow tattoos. There will also be a contest for the best dressed, and prizes will be awarded to the top three best dressed Glow the Distance participants. New to the Glow Zone this year is the Hope Wall. Participants can honor cancer fighters and survivors by writing their names and special messages on this wall.
The race will begin at 7:30 PM and will be kicked off by Merle Wynia, in memory of his wife Loretta. Loretta taught at Rock Valley Christian School for 33 years. She passed away in October of 2015 after her battle with breast cancer.
Registration is $25 per participant, which includes the race, Glow the Distance shirt, and goodie bag. Packet pick-up will be available the day of the event from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM at the Hegg Wellness Center. You can register online at BIT.LY/GLOWTHEDISTANCE or by calling Jordyn at 476-8081.
