Diabetes Care & Education
Your doctor has just told you that you have Diabetes. What does that mean to you? What do you do now?
Hegg Memorial, in affiliation with Avera McKennan, offers an ADA (nationally) recognized Diabetes Program that is also recognized by the Department of Public Health for the state of Iowa.
Your Diabetic Team
Members of the diabetic team include your physician, a registered nurse educator who is a nationally certified diabetes educator (CDE) and a registered dietitian. Others included on the team are your pharmacist and any specialists that assist in your care.
Classes are offered the first three weeks of every month and equip the patient to live well with diabetes.
Services that are offered in addition to diabetic education classes are education for women who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, women with polycystic ovarian disease, pre-diabetes counseling, community screenings and education, and Sioux County Diabetes support group, to name a few.
Both Sue and Jen are very passionate about providing quality, comprehensive diabetes care and work hard to help patients take the steps needed to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes, or help those who have a diagnosis of some form of diabetes, manage it.
