Hegg Memorial Health Center Earns Nation’s Lowest Breast Cancer Screening Recall Rate
Hegg Memorial Health Center has been recognized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for achieving the lowest breast cancer screening recall rate in the nation between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023.
According to CMS data published in February, Hegg reported a recall rate of just 0.5%, significantly outperforming the national average of 9%. This metric reflects how often patients are called back for additional breast cancer imaging after a screening mammogram—lower rates often indicate more accurate initial results and fewer false positives.
“We’re incredibly proud of our radiology and imaging team for their precision, professionalism, and commitment to patient-centered care,” said Glenn Zevenbergen, CEO of Hegg Health Center. “This recognition reflects our ongoing efforts to deliver the highest quality diagnostics while reducing stress and unnecessary procedures for our patients.”
The recall rate is a quality measure used by CMS to monitor the appropriate use of imaging and reduce avoidable follow-up tests. A low recall rate benefits patients by minimizing anxiety, costs, and delays in diagnosis.
This national recognition positions Hegg Health Center as a leader in women’s health and diagnostic imaging—not just in Iowa, but across the country.
