Hegg Memorial Health Center Employee Receives Honor
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa—Alexa Meyer, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Hegg Memorial Health Center’s, Whispering Heights, has been named an Iowa Health Care Association (IHCA) Foundation scholarship recipient. Meyer was presented with the Foundation’s $1,000 John R. Grubb Scholarship for her outstanding commitment to providing long term services and support to the residents she serves at Whispering Heights.
Meyer began her journey in long term services and supports at Whispering Heights two years ago. In addition to working as a CNA, she also helps in housekeeping.
“Not only do my patients benefit from long term care, but there are also benefits and rewards passed on to me through working in long term care” said Meyer in her nomination essay. “Conversing with them when providing cares for them gives me more of an idea of what each of my patients has been through in their lives. These experiences are always something that I can apply to my life and learn from.”
Linda Anderson, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Whispering Heights, speaks highly of Meyer. “She is passionate about the cares she gives and truly works from the heart,” said Anderson. “Alexa will make an excellent nurse.”
Meyer will complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Dordt College in 2020. Upon graduation, she is considering going into geriatric nursing or hospice care.
The Iowa Health Care Association Foundation is supported by the 819 member organizations of the Iowa Health Care Association, which includes Iowa nursing facilities, assisted living communities, residential care facilities, home health agencies and long term services and supports associated businesses.
