It’s time to dress up in your best glow gear for the 2nd Annual Glow the Distance Glow Run! This year’s event is slated for Thursday, October 19 starting at Hegg Wellness Center. The goal of the 2-mile fun run is, “Shining Light on Cancer Awareness.” While the run is held in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event aims at raising awareness for all types of cancer. All proceeds will benefit 3D Digital Mammography upgrade efforts at Hegg Memorial Health Center.
Some new events are planned for this year’s run. The event’s Glow Zone will open at 6:30 PM and will feature a photo booth and glow tattoos. There will also be a contest for the best dressed, and prizes will be awarded to the top three best dressed Glow the Distance participants. New to the Glow Zone this year is the Hope Wall. Participants can honor cancer fighters and survivors by writing their names and special messages on this wall.
The race will begin at 7:30 PM and will be kicked off by Tripp Postmus, his parents Chad and Maria, and his brother Caleb. Tripp is a 4th grader at Rock Valley Elementary. In April, he was diagnosed with Medullablastoma, a form of brain cancer. After undergoing two surgeries to remove the tumor and completing Proton Beam Radiation treatments, Tripp is currently receiving nine rounds of chemotherapy.
You are able to support Hegg’s 3D Digital Mammography upgrade efforts prior to the race. Visit Van’s Market Place Foods and check out the Glow the Distance table where you will be able to register for one of two free bags of groceries to be given away. Van’s will also have donation jugs at the check outs with all proceeds going to benefit 3D Digital Mammography upgrade efforts at Hegg. If you donate you will be able to fill out an awareness ribbon to be hung up in the store.
